Effect of Population Growth Pattern on the Economic Growth in Uganda Case Study: Yesu Amala Trading Centre in Nansana Town Council Wakiso District

Abstract
The study was conducted in Yesu Amala Trading Centre in Nansana Town Council-Wakiso District and it explained the effect of population growth pattern on the economic growth in Uganda, whose aim was to have achieved through these specific objectives: to establish the effect of migration on economic growth, to establish the effect of fertility rate on economic growth and to establish the effect of birth rate on the economic growth.
The researcher used a case study research design where both approaches of qualitative and quantitative research were used. Purposive judgmental was used business owners because it is more convenient and easy to use for the researcher. Questionnaires, interviews and focus group discussion were also used in data collection with a total sample of 107 respondents.
The study assessed the effect of population growth on economic growth which concluded migration contributes to wealth among people in the society, contributes to the improvement of people’s standards of living, contributes to an increase in supply of cheap labor, leads to an increase in aggregate demand and is a source of working age. And the effect of fertility on economic growth include increased market base, increase in human capital formation, creates a negative impact on productive output since expenditure on child raising is more compared to production of goods and services, increases the availability of cheap labour in society, and fertility decline slows the pace of economic growth due to insufficient supply of labour. Lastly, the effect of birth rate on the economic growth are: increases the availability of cheap labour in society, Fertility decline slows the pace of economic growth due to insufficient supply of labour, creates unemployment in the society, leads to increase in dependency rate, leads to a decrease in natural resources and food supply, contributes to availability of labour, leads to an increase in demand for goods, and contributes to low levels of education due to over population in society thus a low standard of living.
Therefore it was concluded that that population growth pattern with the selected dimensions of migration, fertility rate and birth rate is a key subject in ascertaining the growth of the economy of a given society.
