Effect of Human Resource Practices on Employee Performance in Uganda Case Study: Hima Cement Uganda Limited

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the Effect of HRM practices on employee performance in Hima Cement Uganda. Random sampling technique was used to collect data for this research study.

A descriptive research design was used to conduct the study with a sample size of 45 respondents. Various data collection instruments were used in this study and these include; questionnaires and interview guide. A questionnaire based on 34 items was distributed among 45 employees of Hima Cement Uganda for data collection. To check the association between HRM practices and employee’s performance, Pearson correlation statistical technique and regression analysis was applied on the data.

The results indicate that HRM practices Recruitment and Selection, Training and development and Performance Appraisal have a positive impact on employee’s performance. Hence, it is proved that independent variables contribute positively towards change in the dependent variable.

The study recommends that organizations should utilize a variety of reward and recognition programs to drive behavior that promotes high performance. Job performance should be considered an important factor to determine the compensation of employee’s performance. Management should value the contribution and ideas shared by employees and empower employees to maximize their individual talent in order to make effective decisions.
