The Effect of Technology on the Performance of Commercial Banks. Case Study- Centenary Bank Rubaga Branch

Abstract

Technology is currently as one of the key factors that influence the competitive advantage of any organization accompanied by improvement in the economic and financial results of firms. The study aimed at determining the effects of technology on the performance of commercial banks in Uganda where Centenary bank was used as a case study. Secondary data was obtained from the internet, newspaper and books while primary data was gathered from staff of Centenary bank who included the Human resource staff, operations staff and Information systems staff using a questionnaire and interview guide. Data was analyzed using SPSS Statistics and involved computation of frequencies, descriptive statistics and multiple correlation analyses between variables. The response rate in the study was 86% where most of the respondents stated a positive effect of technology on performance. The study emphasized the need for banks to continuously invest in technology for them to remain highly competitive and increase their market share.
