Abstract
The study examined the relationship between Staff Training and Employee Performance in the Banking Industry with specific reference to Stanbic Bank Far West region. The study adopted four research objectives which looked at establishing the effect of on the job training on employee performance, the effect of class room training on employee performance, the effect of e-learning on employee performance and the effect of development programs on employee performance.
The sample size of 103 staffs as a representative sample was determined using the Krejcie and Morgan (1970) sample size table. Purposive sampling was used to select staff in the 8 branches. Data analysis that involved use of frequencies, percentages and mean, correlations and regressions to show the magnitude of effect the independent variables have on the dependent variable. The Study findings revealed that there is a moderate positive significant relationship (r = 0. 354**, p < 0.01) between on job training and employee performance, a moderate positive significant relationship (r = 0.496**, p < 0.01) between class room training and employee performance, a moderate positive significant relationship (r = 0.494**, p < 0.01) between E-learning and employee performance and a positive significant relationship (r = 0.710**, p < 0.01) between development programs and employee performance. The findings revealed further that class room training and development programs are significant predictors of employee performance with beta values of 0.312 and 0.606 sig values of 0.009, 0.000 and bet.
The study therefore concludes that staff training has a positive significant relationship with employee performance. Since all the dimensions of staff training (on job training, classroom training, e-learning and development programs) showed a positive and significant relationship with employee performance in banking industry.
