Abstract
This study intended to explore the impact of Teenage Pregnancy on household income in Ongino Sub-County in Kumi district. The purpose; assessing how teenage pregnancy has affected household income in Ongino Sub-County stimulated the researcher to carry out this study. Three specific objectives inspired the researcher to carry out this study and they included establishing the level of teenage pregnancy in Ongino Sub-County, to establish the impact of teenage pregnancy on household income and to suggest remedies to end teenage pregnancy in Ongino Sub-County.
In this study, the researcher formulated appropriate strategies as far as methodology was concerned. Both qualitative and quantitative approaches were used so as to get accurate results. Qualitative and quantitative data were obtained by means of questionnaires, interviews, existing records, and observation and the results were indicated in table form, showing the frequency and percentage of respondents.
The findings in the literature review agreed with what the researcher found out in Ongino Sub-County that the level of teenage pregnancy is on the rise and that it has had impact on household income levels; causing high school dropout, poor health of teen mothers, high mortality rates among others. The findings indicated that there is need for remedies to end the increasing levels of teenage pregnancy. Following the findings, the researcher therefore concluded that teenage pregnancy is a big issue that has negatively impacted on household income in Ongino Sub-County and this has called for immediate intervention from the community and other stakeholders. The researcher has suggested some recommendations.
