Occupational Safety & Health (Osh) and Employee Productivity Case Study: Gumutindo Coffee Cooperative Enterprise Ltd (Gcce)

Abstract

This study sought to investigate the effect of Occupational Safety and Health on Employee Productivity a case of Gumutindo Coffee Cooperative Enterprise Ltd. The specific objectives were; to examine the effect of safety policy on employee productivity, to examine the effect of personal protective equipment (PPE) on employee productivity and to examine the effect of work conditions on employee productivity. The researcher used a case study research design. The sample size of the study was 76 respondents drawn from a population of 94.

Findings indicated that safety policy had Adjusted R2 = 0.933. This means that 93.3% (0.933×100) variations in employee productivity is explained by safety policy; Personal Protective equipment (PPE) had Adjusted R2 = 0.938 meaning that PPE results into 93.8% variation in Employee productivity; and work conditions had Adjusted R2 = 0.930 meaning that work conditions result into a 93.0% variation in Employee productivity in Gumutindo Coffee Cooperative Enterprise Ltd. The multiple regression gave Adjusted R2 =0.946 meaning that Occupational Safety and Health account for 94.6% variation in Employee productivity in Gumutindo Coffee Cooperative Enterprise Ltd.

The following recommendations were derived from the results, findings and conclusions of the study. First, the management of GCCE should continuously avail to all employees the organization‟s safety policy. Secondly, PPE should continuously be availed to all workers and then sensitized on how to adequately use them while on the organization premises. Thirdly, the researcher recommends that the management of Gumutindo should continuously improve the work conditions if they are to register a great improvement in the Employee productivity. Lastly, the management of GCCE should explore and implement sustainable policies inclined towards improving work conditions, PPE usage and adhering to safety policy as a means of enhancing its Employee productivity.
