Ict Usage in Teaching and Its Influence on Students’ Academic Performance in Uganda Certificate of Education (Uce) in Kasese District.
Abstract
This study hinged on the investigation of ICT usage in teaching and its influence on students’ academic performance in UCE in Kasese District. The study intended to establish the extent to which Accessibility of ICT influence Academic Performance of students in UCE in Kasese District, the extent to which Utilization of ICT infrastructures influence students’ academic performance in UCE in Kasese District and determine the level of knowledge and skills possessed by Secondary School teachers in Kasese District in ICT.
A sample of 291 respondents comprising of 200 students and 04 Head teachers, 08 Deputy Head and 79 teachers selected basing on the stipulations of Krejcie and Morgan (1970). However the related literature was reviewed from text books, journals, periodicals and past research. The research instruments were mainly interviews and questionnaires that were analyzed with tables while the hypotheses for objectives one and two were tested using Chi-square test of independence and objective three was analysed using descriptive statistics.
The results of the study showed that, both Accessibility of ICT and Utilization of ICT infrastructure in secondary schools has a relationship to students’ Academic Performance in UCE. Teachers (55.7%) in Kasese District had knowledge and skills or trained in ICT though 77% of them had limited access to ICT resources. The study recommended for procurement of ICT resources by schools, donation of ICT equipments to schools by MoES to promote E-learning/ E-teaching as well as Emphasis /integration of ICT training in the syllabus and curricula of Teacher Training Institutions.
