Abstract
The study presents findings on contract management and performance of service providers in government parastatals: a case of National Social Security Fund (NSSF). The objectives of the study included; to find out the effect of delivery management on the performance of service providers in government parastatals, to assess the effect of relationship management on the performance of service providers in government parastatals and to examine the effect of contract administration on the performance of service providers in government parastatals. The study employed a cross sectional-case study research design. A total of 54 staff members at NSSF participated in the study. In collecting data, the researcher used both secondary and primary sources. The researcher used both qualitative and quantitative techniques. Data collection methods used included questionnaires and interviews. The study findings revealed that delivery management and relationship management had a strong positive relationship with performance at NSS while contract management had a moderate positive relationship between contract administration and performance at NSSF. Basing on study findings, it was concluded that ensuring that deliveries meet the specifications agreed upon in the contract is critical to performance of service providers. Making sure that deliveries meet the specifications agreed upon leads to improved performance. It was further concluded that maintaining a well-documented dispute resolution framework between NSSF and service providers enhances performance. Critical appraisal of potential weaknesses in service provision is important in ensuring that service providers are competent enough to offer quality services which leads to improved performance. The researcher recommended that execution of contracts should always commence immediately after award and signing the contract. NSSF should maintain a well-established framework to monitor the administration of the contracts
