Abstract
The study was carried on to investigate the factors of demand for tourism and its benefits to the people of Kasese District a case study of Rwenzori Mountaineering Services (Bugoye Sub County Kasese District). The study objectives were too find out the factors of demand for tourism activities, to find out the benefits of tourism on the surrounding communities of Rwenzori mountains Kasese district and to determine the relationship between tourism activities and surrounding communities in Kasese District. The study used both qualitative and quantitative designs; data was collected through both primary and secondary means by use of a questionnaire and interviews. Qualitative data was collected and analyzed by using descriptive statistics to generate percentages, means and frequencies. The study established that the presence of physical features like mountain Rwenzori wild like elephants, among other many have encouraged more tourists to come into the area although issues like insecurity due to tribal and political wars in the area have to some extent reduced the number of tourists flocking the area. Findings indicted that tourism has benefited the people of Bugoye sub county through provision of employment in the sector in addition to providing market to the locally produced items like food staffs .Basing on the above findings, the researcher made recommendations that the government through RMS, UWA and UTB should ensure to establish policies and put measures to conserve wild like especially elephants from poachers. The government should finally sensitize the locals the role of tourism in the area so as for them to actively participate in order to obtain the benefits from it.
