The Role of Procurement Management on the Performance of Private Enterprises in Uganda a Case Study of St. Marys’ Hospital Lacor, Gulu District

Abstract

The main aim of the study was to examine the relationship between Procurement Practices and the performance of Private Enterprises. It was carried out in St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor, Gulu District.

The purpose of the study was to examine the Role of Procurement Management on the Performance of Private Enterprises in Uganda. The concept of Procurement Management was limited to Vendor evaluation, Contract negotiation, Contract Management and Purchasing Management performance was limited to profit, market share and stock turnover.

The study employed a case study research design which involved an intensive analysis of research variables. The study used a sample size of 169 respondents which comprised of management, employees and customers. Purposive sampling was used to select the respondents. The respondents were issued with closed ended and open-ended questions.

The study found out that various procurement practices boost the performance of private institutions and motivate the private institutions to work hard as indicated by the bigger percentage of the respondents. The study concludes that procurement management has a positive impact on the performance of private enterprises and therefore, suggests that procurement practices should be implemented and applied in all the private enterprises so as to help them evaluate, analyze and plan for their enterprise thus boosting their performance.
