Abstract
This research focused on the Role of Staff Competence on the performance of a Company, with reference to the Human Resource department of Tinosoft Ltd Uganda located in Kampala district and the specific objectives of the study were the following; To identify strategies used by Tinosoft Ltd Uganda, to find out the relationship between employee competence and performance of Tinosoft Ltd Uganda, to identify challenges Tinosoft Ltd Uganda is facing and strategies to overcoming them.
The data in this research was mainly collected using the qualitative and quantitative approaches.Under the findings, it was discovered that recruitment helped to generate a pool of potentially qualified applicants, attracted the suitable people to apply for the job vacancies in Tinosoft Ltd Uganda thus increasing the competence of employees.
From the study, it was also concluded that Tinosoft Ltd Uganda can achieve its objectives through employee training. Employee training provided individuals with efficiency to execute distinct tasks assigned to them keeping in mind the strategic objectives and goals of Tinosoft Ltd Uganda.
From the study also it was seen that performance appraisal led to increased competence of employees at Tinosoft Ltd Uganda thus leading to better performance of the company. Performance appraisal evaluated employees’ traits and results, reviewed past actions and behavior and so provided an opportunity to reflect on past performance of Tinosoft Ltd Uganda.
Based on this study, the researcher made the following recommendations; it is recommended that organizations should increasingly adopt and provide training opportunities to employees to increase efficiency and performance of the organization, it is also recommended that Tinosoft Ltd Uganda should build a long-term motivational spirit amongst employees through shared experience and knowledge, orientation, training and mentoring in order to increase retention and fostering proper performance.
The researcher suggested areas for further study as the following; there is need to conduct research on the impact of staff development on effectiveness in an organization, to research on the effect of performance appraisal on performance of the organization.
