Abstract
The main purpose of the study was to analyze the impact of centralized stores on effective performance of an organization. The study was guided by the following objectives: To identify the roles of centralized stores in effective performance of organisations, to find out the challenges faced by organisations with centralized stores and to establish the relationship between centralized stores and performance of an organization. The study was carried on using a detailed literature review thereby analyzing what various authors have written about the topic. This was done by looking into different books. Data was collected using various tools like a self administered questionnaire, interviews to mention but a few. The study was conducted using 34 respondents among the staff, administration and employees in Century Bottling Company The results from the findings indicated that majority of the respondents were males in the company and were in the age group between 30 – 39 who were married. The results indicated that centralization of stores plays a big role in that bottlenecks in the supply of materials for production are avoided by the system and that it enables a better layout of store and its control plus improving reliability by minimizing opportunities for error among others. It was revealed that centralization of stores faced a number of challenges such as lack of this expertise causes uneven service levels and that no-one has the confidence or capabilities to undertake the necessary planning and co-ordination tasks among others. There was a significant relationship between centralization of stores and performance of organizations. Finally, a number of recommendations were suggested such organizations emphasize higher usage of computerized systems because this flexibility to fit local needs helps to explain the dramatic growth in computer use associated with centralization of stores
