The Effect of Strategic Planning on Organizational Peformance Case Study: Ivys Hotel: Along Wakliga Road in Kampala

Abstract

The study sought to investigate the effect of strategic planning to organizational performances in Ivys hotel Mugalasi. The study has also sorted out the context of strategic planning prior to its design in terms of organizational structure, technological change, leadership stability and staff welfare as strategic plans. To this effect, a case study design was chosen as an overall approach for its ability to incorporate to quantitative methods in the collection and analysis of data that focused on the various issues of the study. Besides, in order to meet the objectives of the research, both primary and secondary sources of data were accessed using questionnaire.

The population of the study was 40 while the sample size of 36 was extracted from the population using Krejicie and Morgan table. The study used case study design. Structured questionnaires were used to gather primary data while secondary data was extracted from annual reports, books and journals. Correlation analysis was used in testing the relationship that relates to secondary data and primary data. The result of the study revealed that organizational structure has significant positive effect on the performance of Ivys hotel; that technological changes has significant positive effect on the performance of Ivys hotel; that leadership stability has significant positive effect on the performance of Ivys hotel and that there is significant positive relationship between staff welfare and performance of Ivys hotel. In view of the above findings, the study concludes that effective strategic planning is the fulcrum on which performance of organizations revolves. The study therefore recommends among others that Ivys hotel should give more serious attention to strategic planning, separate other types of planning from strategic planning and endeavor to choose appropriate strategies that matches their strategic plans and as well implement the full tenets of strategic plan.
