Abstract
The research studied Motivation and Employee Performance of Nkolo Construction Company in Shauliyako Kampala District. The objectives were: to assess the impact of promotion on employee performance; to draw the relationship between recognition rewards and employee performance; to analyse the extent at which open door policy affects employee performance and to give challenges faced by Nkolo Construction Company. The study further used the conceptual frame work to analyse methods of motivation applied at Nkolo Construction Company employees. The methods of motivation applied and how they are applied, when they are applied. In determining the relationship between variables the independent variable was Motivation the dependent variable was was Employee Performance with Management style and Level of education as moderating variables. The study population was the employees of Nkolo Construction Company and their clients from Government and private companies. The sample size was 50 respondents. The study used stratified, purposive method and simple random sampling. The study used both qualitative and quantitative research design. The study method of collecting data was by use of questionnaires, interviews and observation. Data collected was analysed using SPSS package and testing the relationship of variables and the effect of motivation methods to employee performance was done by the help of Pearson’s Correlations. The findings of the study showed that motivation methods used have an impact on employee performance, though there some challenges met by management while applying the some methods of motivation. The researcher recommended that management should change the way motivation methods are chosen and applied, though because Lussier’s motivators are not relevant to Ugandan society, employees in Uganda are easily motivated using financial means and this can easily affect employee performance positively.
