This was in form of determining the role of TCL in up-lifting families’ socio-economic development, establishing the challenges faced by families due to the presence of TCL and suggesting strategies to address the challenges.
The study employed both quantitative and qualitative paradigms for data collection and analysis. The main tools employed to collect data included interview guide, questionnaire, focus group discussion and observation check list. A total of 60 respondents took part in the study and there included 21 residents, 17 TCL workers, 13 Business workers and 9 local leaders (LC III, CDO, sub/county chief).

The study findings showed that pollution, displacement of people, environmental degradation, slum development, and breakdown of the main roads leading to accidents are the major challenges that families face in the area.
The study concludes that, the challenges faced by families are a matter of social concern which needs to urgently be addressed. In light of this, the study recommends that In the case of road breakdowns, TCL should consider using alternative means of transportation like railway, installing pollution abatement equipments or an electronic precipitator which traps dust to minimize the effects of pollution experienced and setting up resettlement schemes for slum dwellers.
