Abstract
The study examined the role played by business organizations to improve trader’s welfare in Kampala. The Specific objectives included:
Findings out how leveraging aids to trade improves traders welfare in Uganda, examine the relationship between income distribution and traders welfare in Uganda and find out how sustainable development can be attained in order to improve trader’s welfare in Uganda. The study adopted descriptive research design using both qualitative and quantitative research paradigms, sampling a total of 100 traders and administrators of KACITA. The study used questionnaires and interview to collect data which was analyzed and presented in tabular tables inform of percentage and frequencies means and standard deviation.
The study revealed that Traders managed to expand their business by getting loans from banks, communication facilitated traded between the traders and their customers, improved transport had widened the market base of traders, insurance reduced the risk of traders losing all their goods in case of an accident and trader’s savings had increased through banking. It was uncovered that Traders were safe guarded from external forces in the economy like the government traders were being supervised on how to utilize the available resources in a sustainable way. It was further observed that poor means of transport affected the supply of good and lack of foreign investors to invest in the business sector also affected the traders’ welfare. It was also discovered that the market size was small which made it hard for traders to sell off their goods and traders also had limited capital that made it hard to expand their businesses.
Finally, recommendations made include; the board at Kampala City Traders Association should improve on their strategies used training sessions so that they are effective and can achieve economic objectives of traders. Training programs should have objectives that are in line with the needs of traders. It is also recommended that Kampala City Traders Association should always advocate on behalf of their members to the government for a better environment that is conducive for business operation like investment incentives, favourable tax policies, monetary and general economic policies, political stability and social order.
