Abstract

The purpose of the study was to examine the impact of entrepreneurial activities on economic development of Uganda using the following objectives; examining the impact of innovation on the economic development of Uganda, identifying how developing an industry influences economic development of Uganda and the impact of competitive aggressiveness on the economic development of Uganda. A variety of literature about entrepreneurial activities’ and their impact on economic development of Uganda was reviewed. During the literature review, it was evident that the literature on the impact of entrepreneurial activities on economic development of Uganda in Century Bottling Company was lacking. By filling this gap, this research will be a referral document for other researchers and a resource book for microfinance institutions during the implementation of their programs. The study was carried out using both quantitative and qualitative methods. Questionnaires and interviews were used to collect the data that was presented in tables, and numbers and the SPSS was used to calculate the frequencies, percentages and means to show the role played by entrepreneurship towards economic development. Findings revealed that most of the respondents (70%) generally agreed that innovation is an impact on economic development. The study also found that the effect of industry development affects economic development and majority of the respondents (85%) generally agreed that industrial sector enhances productivity higher than the agricultural sector in the economy. The study showed that most of the respondents agreed (80%) that competitive aggressiveness influences economic development. This therefore means that when there is more entrepreneurship in an economy more growth is expected. The study therefore recommends the government to development policies which will enhance entrepreneurship in order boost economic development. It also recommends emphasis on entrepreneurship as one of the major subjects in the institutions of learning for students because it could build up more entrepreneurs that contribute to economic development of Uganda.
